Instagram recently celebrated its anniversary on October 6. As the platform continues to grow, the Meta-owned app is introducing a range of new features aimed at attracting more Gen Z users.
According to News360, Tuesday (October 24, 2023), Instagram will soon begin testing these new features specifically designed for Gen Z, with a wider rollout expected in the coming months.
The upcoming features include birthday reminders, audio notes, selfie video notes, and multiple lists for Stories.
The company stated that these new tools will help younger users express their creativity and share content more easily on the platform.
During a Meta event in Delhi, India, the company showcased several new Instagram features tailored for Gen Z.
One of the highlights is the Birthday feature, which helps users remember the birthdays of people close to them, making it easier to celebrate special moments. Users can add images or fun effects, such as confetti, to someone’s profile photo on their birthday.
In addition to that, Instagram is also introducing new ways to create Notes—users will soon be able to post audio notes and selfie video notes.
Notes Feature Coming to Direct Messages
Just like the existing Notes feature, the new audio and video notes will appear in the Direct Message (DM) section, displayed above the inbox.
The new Audio Notes feature allows users to record short voice messages as notes, while Selfie Video Notes let users capture quick video messages. Both types of notes will remain visible for 24 hours, similar to the current text-based Notes feature.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Multiple Lists in Stories feature is also on the way. Until now, users could only create one Close Friends list for sharing Stories.
With this update, users will soon be able to create multiple Close Friends lists. For example, one list for college friends, another for coworkers, and more—giving users more control over who sees their Stories.
