Meta Begins Testing Threads Integration with Mastodon
Meta has announced that it has begun testing the integration of Threads with other social platforms that use the ActivityPub protocol.
Through this integration, posts from Threads will eventually become visible on Mastodon and other ActivityPub-powered services.
“We’re starting to test making Threads posts available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said via his Threads account, quoted Saturday (December 16, 2023).
“Making Threads interoperable will give people more ways to interact and help content reach more people. I’m pretty optimistic about this,” he added.
During the announcement of Threads’ rollout in Europe, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, also confirmed the ongoing tests.
Through his Threads account, Mosseri shared that a set of posts uploaded by himself and several other members of the Threads team will be available on other fediverse platforms like Mastodon starting this week.
“This test is a small but meaningful step toward making Threads interoperable with other apps that use ActivityPub,” Mosseri said.
In his video, Mosseri explained that ActivityPub is an open protocol designed to allow social platforms to “communicate with one another.”
“We’re committed to making this happen so people can discover communities and engage with the content most relevant to them—regardless of which app they prefer to use,” he added through his Threads account.
